Ibiza protesters dance for freedom

With clubbers, hippies and artistic types lining the protest route in Ibiza yesterday, the demonstration had an impromptu, creative spirit.

At every major junction, the protesters would sit on the street clapping and shouting, with the energy building, before all of them jumped in the air in unity.

It was very dance music, and very DC10.

This video I grabbed shows protesters gathered around a car in the street.

The car’s occupants had a booming soundsystem and cranked up the dance music, much to the delight of the crowd.

Vinerea aceasta, tanara si talentata artista, Miki Love, este gata sa infierbante din punct de vedere spiritual mintile timisorenilor care vor merge in Heaven Studio.

“Am inceput sa pun muzica dupa 14 februarie anul acesta. Practic atunci a fost lansarea mea oficiala ca DJ-ita. Eu am fost si animatoare in cateva cluburi din Bucuresti. Acuma sunt chemata in fiecare week-end undeva prin tara sa pun muzica”, spune Miki Love.

Nu este singurul caz in care Dj-ing-ul se impaca de minune cu sexul, sau in alte cazuri cu filme porno pentru case de productie ca Budoar. Pe numele ei adevarat Mihaela Ifrim, DJ Miki Love are 23 de ani, este studenta in ultimul an la Facultatea de Relatii Internationale si Studii Europene din Bucuresti; a refuzat insa cu stoicism si onoare sa ne acorde un interviu (video ar fi fost de dorit).

Droog is the enigmatic DJ cadre of Andrei Osyka, Brett Griffin and Justin Sloe. Born enemies during the height of the Cold War, the triptych’s origins and influences span thousands of miles, from the wooded hills of Ukraine to the first American metropolis.

Individually, the members of Droog are an odd-lot: Justin Sloe is rumored to have played third baseman for the Boston Red Sox, and is best described by the sheer breadth of his musical influences and his proclivity to break out the perfect old-school sample or classic tune; Brett, of parts unknown, is as likely to drop a cutting remark as a haunting melody; Andrei, an able midfield general, world traveler and lampmaker, is known for his singularly fine taste in house, minimal, techno and women. The friendship between these strange souls, cemented by innumerable late-night to early-morning music sessions, produced Droog and its distinct sound – some say its “zvook” – bending genre (house, minimal, techno) and time (late night into early morning) in an unhealthy pursuit of all that percolates in electronic dance music.

Known for inimitable mixes acclaimed by both music auteurs and amateurs, Droog has served its come-uppance, DJing in exotic and far-flung locales such as Kiev, Lisbon and Taipei, and playing alongside influences such as Richie Hawtin, Lee Burridge, Three, Mr. C, Booka Shade, Tiga, John Tejada, Matthew Dear and Magda. Now, at the end of history, in the land of celluloid and silicone, the time has come to bring the Droog experience to Avalon.
